Jordan McConnell & Taro Inoue

Jordan McConnell & Taro Inoue

Genre: Acoustic Jazz, Classical, Contemporary Folk, Instrumental

The meeting of TARO INOUE and JORDAN MCCONNELL was the culmination of a series of monumental coincidences that found Jordan (a Winnipeg native) in Kamakura, Japan, just a few weeks after the tsunami of 2011 and needing someone to perform with him at a Zen temple the next day. Taro stepped in and from the first notes they played they both knew that they had found something special.

Taro grew up immersed in the Bluegrass scene around Osaka, learning from his father who plays with the renowned band Bluegrass 45. Like most kids his age he grew up listening to rock and pop music but in his teens fell in love with the playing of Bill Monroe, picked up the mandolin and has been carving a name for himself on the scene ever since. A two year stint at East Tennessee State University studying and playing music further established him as an international presence.

Jordan was a founding member of Winnipeg based band The Duhks. A Juno win, several Juno nominations and a Grammy nod interspersed with playing nearly every major folk festival in North America, Europe, and Australia have kept him on the cutting edge of the folk scene.

Taro and Jordan have erased borders and created a sound that is all their own. They have performed in Japan from Sapporo to Okinawa, Tokyo to Hiroshima. Home Routes will be their first set of performances in North America.
